SCALING LUXURY SALON RETAIL WITHOUT LOSING CRAFTSMANSHIP
SheridanCX partnered with Oribe to design a modular point-of-sale system for premium salons worldwide. Drawing on artisanal references and the brand’s luxury positioning, we created a scalable display solution that blends material authenticity with functional flexibility, ensuring Oribe could own its retail space while preserving its high-end identity.

When luxury haircare meets world-class retail design, magic happens. Our partnership with Oribe, the high-end haircare brand celebrated for its innovation and uncompromising quality, began when we met the exceptionally talented Jennifer Smith, then Vice President of Packaging (now Vice President of Product Creation).
Jennifer arrived at our Midtown New York offices with three intriguing objects. These were her inspirations for a modular, scalable point-of-sale system that could help Oribe take full ownership of its branded spaces within leading hair salons worldwide.
The most memorable was a solid brass statue, discovered during her travels in Asia. Likely handcrafted over 200 years ago, it had naturally aged to perfection. While breathtaking, it was worlds apart from the kind of high-volume, cost-effective POS system needed to support a global roll-out.
The second reference was concrete, a brutalist favourite. While striking at large scale, our challenge was to retain its material presence and texture in a compact format suitable for salon counters and shelves.
The third was a dark, almost black metal, more at home in the structure of skyscrapers than in small-scale, customer-facing retail displays.
Designing for Flexibility and Global Roll-Out
From these starting points, we embarked on a collaborative and highly creative journey. Our brief was to transform these distinctive material inspirations into practical, elegant, and engaging retail fixtures that could be produced at scale without losing their premium character.
The solution was a flexible, modular display system. Each unit could stand alone or be combined with others, adapting to salons of all sizes and layouts. This flexibility meant catering to Oribe’s full product mix, from core haircare to specialist treatments, travel sizes, accessories, and the brand’s prestige fragrance collection. Fragrance, in particular, was designed to sit slightly apart, elevated both physically and visually to signal its exclusivity.
Honouring Oribe’s Material Language
One of the joys of working with Oribe is their dedication to unexpected materials in both packaging and three-dimensional brand expression. We explored specialist manufacturing techniques, including Italian resin casting, to reinterpret Jennifer’s original references in a way that was lightweight, durable, and production-friendly, all without compromising the aesthetic.
This was a true meeting of luxury craft and commercial engineering. Every choice balanced brand storytelling with the technical demands of high-volume global distribution.
The Results
The final system delivered a visually stunning, tactile, and versatile retail presence that captured Oribe’s artistry while meeting the realities of global roll-out. It has since been installed in key salons worldwide, including a large-format, bespoke installation at the Richard Ward salon in Chelsea.
Our work with Oribe continues to evolve, and we look forward to sharing the next chapter of this collaboration.
